A strong support system is essential for caregivers. It provides:
✅ Stress & Burnout Reduction – Sharing responsibilities prevents emotional and physical exhaustion.
✅ Higher Quality of Care – A well-supported caregiver provides better, more attentive care.
✅ A Sense of Community – Knowing you’re not alone makes challenges more manageable.
✅ Space for Self-Care – Delegating tasks allows room for personal well-being.
Caregiving is not a solo mission—it’s a journey that should be shared and supported.
Your team doesn’t need to be large, but it must be effective. Here are six key areas to consider:
Who to Ask: Trusted individuals who can assist in small ways (errands, meals, emotional support).
How to Ask: Be specific. Instead of “I need help,” try “Could you drive Mom to her appointment on Thursday?”
Doctors, nurses, therapists, pharmacists – These professionals are critical for medical decision-making.
Advocate for your loved one – Take notes, ask questions, and maintain clear communication.
Caregiving organisations, nonprofits, religious groups – Many offer meal delivery, respite care, transportation, and more.
Online or in-person caregiver groups provide emotional support, shared experiences, and practical advice.
Peer connection reduces isolation and stress.
If financially possible, consider hiring a home health aide, respite caregiver, or personal care assistant.
Outsourcing certain responsibilities can ease physical and emotional strain.
Caregiving apps like CaringBridge or Lotsa Helping Hands organize schedules, medication reminders, and updates.
Smart home devices improve efficiency and accessibility.
Make a list of caregiving tasks and highlight those you could delegate.
Ask yourself: What’s draining me the most?
Many friends and family WANT to help but don’t know how.
Be direct and specific:
✅ Instead of: “I need help.”
✅ Try: “Could you bring a meal on Wednesday?”
Building a support network takes time—start where you can.
Hiring home care or respite services is NOT a failure—it’s an investment in sustainability.
Research local caregiver support programs that offer subsidised assistance.
Set medication reminders on your phone or a caregiver app.
Use shared digital calendars to coordinate schedules with family.
A simple “thank you” strengthens relationships and makes people more willing to help again.
When I first started caregiving, I thought I had to do it all alone. Managing medical appointments, meals, medications, and daily routines left me feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and isolated.
Then one day, a friend noticed my exhaustion and offered to pick up groceries for me. At first, I hesitated—I didn’t want to burden anyone.
But when I finally accepted help, it was life-changing.
From there, I took small steps:
✅ Asking my family to help with transportation.
✅ Hiring an in-home caregiver for specialised medical support.
✅ Joining an online caregiver support group for emotional encouragement.
This shift transformed my caregiving experience. I went from feeling alone to feeling supported and empowered.
And that’s exactly why I created J and B Oasis—to ensure caregivers always have a place to turn for support, connection, and guidance.
If you’re feeling alone in caregiving, know this: You don’t have to do it all. Help is there—you just have to allow yourself to receive it. 💛
Here’s your challenge for the week:
✅ Identify ONE caregiving task you can delegate.
✅ Reach out to a friend, family member, or community resource for support.
✅ Join a caregiver support group—online or in person.
